About Us

C&D Rural has proudly served the local communities of Cumbria, Dumfries & Galloway and the Scottish Borders for nearly 40 years. Founded in 1988, the company’s mission was a clear one: to deliver Land and Estate Agency services tailored to the needs of customers at Longtown Auction Mart customers and the wider rural community.

What started as a small operation based in the Auction Mart quickly grew into a cornerstone of rural life in our core geographies. A major milestone for the company occurred in 2001 when C&D Rural merged with the highly regarded, family-run land agency and auctioneering business, Thomson Rodick & Laurie, which strengthened its position in the market and broadened its reach.

C&D Rural added the Fine & Country brand in South Scotland to its business in 2021 followed by the acquisition of Fine & Country Cumbria in 2023 and further expansion in Scotland in 2025, specialising in the marketing and sale of properties in the Upper Quartile.

From advising farmers on land use and property rights to helping rural owners navigate complex estate matters, as well as providing a trusted, local estate agency for the sale and letting of properties, C&D Rural offers a comprehensive suite of rural services under one roof.

C&D Rural thrives today in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

With its roots firmly in the local area, complemented by a forward-thinking approach and a reputation built on trust, C&D Rural continues to be a leader in rural consultancy, property services and land and smallholdings sales and advice.
