Full Details

Telford Manor House is a fine detached property located between Beattock and Moffat. The property was built by the famous engineer Thomas Telford in 1822, and presently offers substantial self-catering accommodation, sleeping 26 guests, in the perfect spot for exploring Dumfriesshire.
Thomas Telford is perhaps best known for building the Menai Suspension Bridge linking North Wales to Anglesey but he also built numerous canals and roads throughout Britain, the stunning Chirk Aqueduct in North Wales and St Katherine’s Dock in London, not to mention the Trent and Mersey Canal, the Birmingham and Liverpool Junction Canal, The Ellesmere Canal and the Caledonian Canal in the Highlands along with numerous churches there. Born in 1757, Telford, who was known as ‘The Builder of Britain’ died in London in 1834 just 12 years after building Telford House, a Coaching Inn on the important north-south route from Glasgow and Edinburgh to London at Beattock. Indeed, Mr Telford’s drawings of Telford House are still referred to for advice and information by today’s engineers.
This impressive period property offers well-proportioned rooms and retained period detail including the notable original staircase and balustrade. The flexible layout, excellent transport links and potential to continue with the success of the existing business, make this a very attractive property.
